National Barcode Symbol DS9808 Review
There are not many scanners that fill the gap between a regular hand held unit and a hands-free device. The DS9808 offers the best of both worlds as a presentation scanner that you can easily pick up and use as a hand held scanner. The big advantage of the DS9808 is that it's not a laser device but rather a 2D imager. The imager allows you to read any linear (1D) or 2D barcode, including the barcode on driver's licenses, in any orientation with minimal aiming. The competing Honeywell MS3780 Fusion has a similar form factor, but being a standard laser scanner limits the amount of codes you can read and how aggressive it is. For age verification at the POS the DS9808 is a prefect match. Scanning item UPC codes as well as driver's licenses can be done all with the same device. Add on the option for RFID tag reading and the DS9808 cannot be beat for counter-top, hands-free scanning.
