The Magellan 8500 Series is the highest performing scanner/scanner-scale available for large volume point-of-sale applications. It is the first scanner to use PSC's new, ground breaking SurroundScan technology to aggressively scan all 6 sides of an item. Competitive dual-plane scanners can only read 4 or 5 sides at once but the Magellan 8500 Series can simultaneously read the bottom, top, and all four sides of store items. With SurroundScan, a bar code in virtually any orientation can be read with the first pass. It has never been easier, faster, or more ergonomic to scan at the POS!

The Magellan 8500 Series also incorporates FirstStrike®, PSC's most advanced decoding software. It enables the reading of torn, poorly printed, and disfigured labels of all types. FirstStrike also supports all of the most popular symbologies, including Reduced Space Symbology (RSS) and is able to autodiscriminate all supported symbologies for added flexibility.

Smart Technology For Your Business
The Magellan 8500 Series has a powered auxiliary RS232 port for integrating a PSC handheld scanner for those large or heavy items that are often left in the shopping cart. This port can also be used to update the scanner's software in flash memory. Additionally, the Magellan 8500 Series can be equipped for full electronic article surveillance (EAS) functionality, including Interlock, for one step scanning and security tag deactivation.

To add even more value to the POS environment, the Magellan 8500 Series features optional productivity enhancement software. One application, Productivity Index Reporting™ (PIR), will automatically monitor the bar codes being scanned and will alert management to items that are consistently slowing down the checkout process. Another application, Cashier Training™, is designed to teach user's faster, more ergonomic scanning techniques.

Seamless Integration
Since the Magellan 8500 Series is from PSC you can count on easy installation and years of worry free operation. The Magellan 8500 Series has the same footprint as the original Magellan SL® (20.0” x 11.5” / 50.8 x 29.2 cm) so it will integrate easily into both new and existing point-of-sale configurations. It also supports all of the most popular host terminal interfaces right out of the box, including RS232, IBM 46XX, and IBM Power Plus USB. In addition, the Magellan 8500 Series is compatible with OPOS and JavaPOS systems allowing for even greater installation flexibility at the point-of-sale.
