When its time to take an asset inventory, ScanAsset is the most versatile of Asset Management systems in that it allows you to use any PocketPC PDA to collect the data. You can use a device with a barcode scanner, like the HHP Dolphin 9500, or use your company PocketPC PDA's without the barcode scanner. Naturally, because of the increase in accuracy in using a barcode scanner, we recommend you use one. The important thing to note is that if budgetary constraints preclude you investing in a scanning device, ScanAsset will still work for you!
When you start the program, the ScanAsset Main Menu displays.
Assets and locations can be added using the handheld scanner. On the PDA, tap Start, Programs, ScanAsset, Initial Loader, Initial Inventory. When in the initial inventory screen, you can add locations and assets.
Note the locations displayed below, along with the color coding to represent the inventoried assets by location. This screen gives the user the ability to quickly identify a location without scanning a series of locations to identify where the inventory was started.
Once in a location, ScanAsset allows you to just scan the Asset Number tag on the equipment, and automatically checks off that the inventory for that asset was complete. ScanAsset automatically finds the asset (if its assocated with that location) and makes the entry of the date, time and operator when the item was scanned. This information will later be updated in ScanAsset's desktop database.
At any time during the inventory, you can change information about an asset. You can add information regarding details of the asset or change its ownership and location information. Where other PDA asset programs require you to make the change only on the desktop, but ScanAsset makes it easy. You can scan the asset, tell the program that you want to make a change to the asset information. The changes are carried back to the desktop and ScanAsset's desktop database is automatically updated.
